  • 00FF. More embedded bitmap fun :)

    Cool!

Going to take a three month sabbatical and figure out how this works.
  • u/FireFly
Anything in particular that I should explain? It might help to draw the bits of the codepoints in the string literal on a piece of paper, as an 8×15 grid (15 chars, 8 bits per char). Ā is U+100, used to encode 0x00.
  • u/sfz
    Neat trick!

Spot on :) Supernova was actually the first word that came to mind when I saw the dweet. Then I saw your comment ^^

I would love an explanation or pointer about the maths going on here… in particular I don't understand why the 1.56 constant for the b= is so sensitive. It looks like an approximation of π/2, but all of π/2, 1.57 and 1.5 behave vastly differently/more chaotically. So what's the relationship between these numbers/how is 1.56 derived?
  • u/tapgiles
What the... @.@ Looks so detailed!
  • u/joeytwiddle
    Some other constants with similar behaviour: 1.17, 2.34, 3.12, 3.51, 3.90, 4.68, 6.24
  • u/joeytwiddle
    And a few with different behaviour: 3.08, 6.05 (!), 6.35

  • This shows the pattern traced by a line directly between the Earth and Venus as they orbit the sun. This pattern is pretty ancient, for example discussed in the book Quadrivum about the old academic relationships between art and science. This type of pattern may be helpful to appreciate the concept of Orbital Resonance in a planetary system.
