Thanks :) I just realised I missclassified these. Although it is 2.5D with 3D texturing as Wolfenstien/Doom pioneered, the 2D distance is found using #raymarching rather than casting, which is necessary for size and implicit surfaces.

Ah yes! thanks pavel :) I did try to get rid of Z/8 once but didn't go far enough with the constants as you did.

Can also now play with the marching granularity more easily to get smoother results... although it's very slow without an SDF for the fractal for larger initial steps.

I just recently got aware of http://glslsandbox.com/ - and by reading some of the code from the demos i also found https://www.shadertoy.com/ - but be aware you really need a computer with a powerfull graphics card or else everything just freezes up :-)

I also found that, the shaderlanguage is more like c than javascript, and the way you code shaders, are quite different from codeing for canvas2d :-) - Challenge accepted!
