Anybody remember the original PS3 dash wave patterns? Any ideas on how to replicate?

Definitely some alpha involvement, but i think you need a plane and add some waves to that, and then rotate the plane and add some waves to the planes edge. I tried to replicate in 2d using only sin function, but it lookes like... a bunch of sinus curves :-) http://glslsandbox.com/e#69430.0
